Just as Sara is settling into her new life in the capital, a series of surprise visits turn her plans upside down! While working as an apothecary, Sara reunites with a fellow Invited, Bradley, who brings news from Rosa and the Dark Mountain. Soon after, Nelly and Chris arrive in the capital, bringing word that the town of Rosa wishes for Chris to resume his role as guildmaster of the Apothecary's Guild! Chris has no intention of accepting the offer, but he worries for his old student Ted, who has taken up the position of mayor of Rosa, and so he begins his journey back to his old stomping grounds.
