In the early Common Era, all the Daventombs were killed, leaving the dragons of Erosil without a master for the first time in over 500 years. The new queen, Anot Blackcloak, was seen as a liberator by some and a murderer by others. Rumours began to circulate that a new dragon king, named Draynesiris, would emerge and unite the lands of man with the help of the largest dragon the continent had ever seen. The attempts of Anot to destroy the dragons and their masters would be undone by the new Dragon King, who would be born from Blackcloak blood and sit upon the Burnt Throne.

Prince Solomon Whitehammer-Morhall was born to rule Man's Lands from the East to the West. But when his mother is murdered and the child is taken, feared dead, the rift between the Morhall-ruled Estron and the Whitehammer-ruled Jacarcia becomes a canyon. Many years later, when Man's Lands are preparing for war, a smuggler is captured and brought to the King in the East, claiming to be the lost prince.

Carlof Crowbeak, a young Guardian of the Frost, finds himself lost as the lands of Erosil begin to crumble around him. In a world where wealth and power define a man's worth, Carlof discovers that he is not who he was said to be. His sentinel, Arkonis Sephicron, holds many secrets. Together, they are driven from the land of the mysterious Langwyth and into the hands of the Legion of Iron.

He has brought down the wrath of the Orcs upon the city he failed, and a pirate King lays waste to the coast in the name of Jacarcia.
