Nacida
en Torquay en 1891, Agatha Christie recibió la tí pica
educació n victoriana impartida por institutrices en el hogar paterno. Tras la
muerte de su padre, se trasladó a Parí s, donde estudió piano y canto.
Contrajo matrimonio en 1914 y tuvo una hija, pero su matrimonio terminó en
divorcio en 1928. Dos añ os despué s, durante un viaje por Oriente Medio
conoció al arqueó logo Max Mallowan, con quien se casó ese mismo añ o; a partir
de entonces pasó varios meses al añ o en Siria e Irak, escenario de Ven y dime
có mo vives (Andanzas 50, ahora tambié n en la colecció n Fá bula) y de alguna de
sus novelas policiacas, como Asesinato en
Mesopotamia o Intriga en
Bagdad. Ademá s del gran é xito de que disfrutaron sus
cé lebres novelas, a partir de 1953 ganó celebridad con las adaptaciones
teatrales de sus novelas en el West End londinense. En 1971 le fue concedida
la distinció n de Dame of the British Empire. Murió en
1976.
Born in Torquay in 1891, Agatha
Christie received a typical Victorian education from governesses in
her father's home. After her father's death, she moved to Paris, where she
studied piano and singing. He married in 1914 and had a daughter, but their
marriage ended in divorce in 1928. Two years later, during a trip to the
Middle East, she met archaeologist Max Mallowan, whom she married that same
year; thereafter, she spent several months a year in Syria and Iraq, the scene
of Come and tell me how you live (Andanzas 50, now also in the
Fá bula collection) and some of her detective novels, such as
Murder in Mesopotamia or
Intrigue in Baghdad. In addition to the
great success enjoyed by her famous novels, from 1953 onwards she gained fame
with the theatrical adaptations of her novels in London's West End. In 1971
she was awarded the distinction of Dame of the British
Empire. She died in 1976.
