Beschreibung

OpenOffice and HSQLDB are two of the brightest stars in the OpenSource heavens right now. OpenOffice is an enterprise-grade, heavyweight contender to Microsoft's Office suite with a stellar growth in downloads and market share. It is also multi-platform, robust and fully featured system upon which to build enterprise class, license-free and distributable data applications. OpenOffice 2 will include HSQLDB.
HSQLDB is a marvel of database technology. It provides a lightening fast, portable, embeddable and standards-compliant SQL database engine. It is built on Java technology and much of its stability and rich feature set come from the Java platform. As does its rapid development. In fact, HSQLDB has developed into a major database technology so quickly that no books presently exist that cover its use.
For the first time in print, this book provides in-depth programmer's documentation for both OpenOffice 2 and HSQLDB. It is written for application developers who wish to develop data-rich, OpenOffice-based applications quickly. It not only provides the first published programming reference for HSQL, but it is also the first book to tackle using HSQLDB within OpenOffice 2. This book uniquely focuses on real world application development in OpenOffice 2. TOC:Introduction.- The power of free.- History.- Writer.- Calc.- Impress.- Draw.- Database tools.- Building Applications.- How to build an application.- OpenOffice Basic.- Using third party languages.- Using external databases.- Enterprise database examples.- Extending OpenOffice.- Example application: Text.- messaging.- Introduction.- The main UI screen.- Sending messages.- Receiving messages.- Exception handling.- Storing and retrieving data.- Invoicing.- Reference section.- OpenOffice Basic reference.- Macro Programming Reference.- The OpenOffice API.- Tips and tricks.

Brad Keiser obtained a BSc. in Computer Sciences at the University of Cape Town. He started freelance software development while a student and has continued ever since. Since then, he's been a consultant to numerous merchant banks and blue chip companies including British Telecom, Deutsche Bank, J.P Morgan and Alcatel.
Brad has been an Open Source advocate his entire professional career. He founded his company, Kieser.net, an Open Source-based Internet Service Provider out of frustration at a lack of Open Source-based real back-end processing solutions back at the dawn of the Internet. Keiser.net provides white-label services to a wide customer base ranging from blue chip corporates to independent techies. It remains 100% Open Source throughout the entire company and is standardized on the Linux operating system for both desktops and servers.
His other business, SMS-Speedway.com grew out of client needs for wireless communication and is presently 4 years old. It enjoys several household names as its client base
