Rabbi Jimmy Kessler, DHL, DD, a native Houstonian, has been Rabbi of Congregation B'nai Israel of Galveston for twenty-one years. He is the founder and first president of the Texas Jewish Historical Society, a member of the Philosophical Society of Texas, a trustee of the Harris and Eliza Kempner Fund, a trustee of the Abe and Peggy Levy Foundation, and the Jewish editor of the Handbook of Texas . Dr. Kessler is the author of Henry Cohen: The Life of a Frontier Rabbi, Songs for the Soul, and editor of Deep in the Heart: The Lives and Legends of Texas Jews. He is married to Shelley Nussenblatt Kessler, CPA, and the father of Andy and Jenny Kessler.
