Groundwater resources represent a strategic and fundamental source of supply, as they compensate for the scarcity of water from surface sources or eliminate the need for water abstraction and treatment. In this study, free geoprocessing tools were used to characterise groundwater resources based on data from deep tube wells drilled in the municipality of Goianira, located in the metropolitan region of Goiânia, and the internet was used as a means of managing the information. Geographic Information System tools were employed using the gvSIG application to produce cartographic products containing information on the identified wells. Geospatial analyses were performed, such as the classification of flow intervals, the elaboration of a groundwater potential surface, the identification of the depth of the bedrock, the identification of areas favourable for geophysical prospecting, and the cataloguing of wells.
