He was previously the Guardian's eco travel correspondent, Editor of Green Hotelier and Travel Editor of National Geographic GREEN and has written about sustainable tourism for a wide range of publications, including BBC Wildlife, National Geographic, The Times, Sunday Times Travel Magazine, and Geographical - the magazine of The Royal Geographical Society (of which he is a fellow). Richard has written several books about sustainable travel, including Green Places to Stay (Sawdays) and he was co-author of Clean Breaks: 500 New Ways to See the World (Rough Guides). He was the consultant to the Guardian Green Travel Guide and for the Travel Channel's series 'How to Holiday Greener'.
