Jorge Ibargü engoitia nació en la ciudad de Guanajuato, Mé xico, el 22 de enero de 1928 y murió en Madrid, Españ a, el 27 de noviembre de 1983. Su obra, una de las má s importantes y originales del siglo XX, transita por casi todos los gé neros: novela, cuento, teatro, artí culo periodí stico, ensayo y relato infantil. Fue un colaborador incansable de diversos perió dicos, revistas y suplementos culturales de gran importancia en el medio cultural de Hispanoamé rica. A lo largo de su trayectoria obtuvo varios de los reconocimientos má s importantes de su é poca, como el Premio Casa de las Amé ricas en 1964, el Premio Internacional de Novela Mé xico en 1974 y las becas del Centro Mexicano de Escritores, de las fundaciones Rockefeller, Fairfield y Guggenheim. La suma de su trabajo lo sitú a hoy como un autor imprescindible para entender la literatura latinoamericana actual.
