In the "quiet" town of Whitestone, New York, circa 1973, twelve-year-old Samantha Davis spies a mysterious, grumpy, old man, nicknamed "Igor", sneaking out of his garden apartment in the middle of the night. She and her best friend, Richie O'Brien, along with their neighborhood gaggle of buddies, hatch a plan to follow him. Richie and Sam's midnight trip down "Cemetery Alley" and beyond, leads them to the secret world of "The Intersection". The Intersection, buried in the dark, dank basements of the garden apartments, seems to exist in its own impossible endless space, housing countless Artifacts from every imaginable place and time.
"Igor," it turns out, is not at all who he seems to be, and "resonance" from the Artifacts will take Sam and Richie to the horror of the Vietnam War and into the urban decay of the South Bronx, to name a few, as they risk everything to save Igor, a man, who until recently, they hardly knew.
While rife with the magical and mystical, Intersections is, at its heart, a story of friendship - perhaps the greatest magic of all.
