Shaykh Muḥyī al-Dīn ibn al-ʿArabī left to posterity a voluminous body of writings which brims with wisdom, knowledge, and spiritual insights. His originality and profundity are uncontested. The complexity of some of the metaphysical concepts he exposits require intellectual rigour. Deciphering the cryptic style of some of his writings requires diligence and patience. Devotion of one’s entire life is perhaps needed to fully absorb and understand the colossal legacy of this great scholar and saint—this ocean without shores as he has been often described. The aim of the selected excerpts in the present book is to give to the general reader a flavour of this great man’s wisdom without delving into hair-splitting and very complex theological and metaphysical questions.
