This volume offers an authoritative and up-to-date account of the history of the Roman Empire from AD 193 to 337. It deals with the political, social, economic and religious history of one of the most important periods in Mediterranean history, during which Roman power was faced with serious military and economic problems which threatened to destroy the Empire. By the end of the period, stability was re-established by the Emperor Diocletian and his successor Constantine, Romes first Christian emperor.
