The story reopens on June 30, 1984.
Charlotte Bauman believes she's loved Jeremy Moore since she first noticed him at the age of fourteen. Finally, upon turning eighteen and finishing high school, she wants to follow through by marrying him. . . only to learn the hard way that he's not the man she thought he was.
Jeremy has been waiting for Charlotte to finish growing up so he can take her to wife. Her parents' disapproval causes him to take matters into his own hands. But marriage turns out to be nothing like what either of them expected or imagined.
