The book is a memoir of the last 15 years of my life. It was inspired after I lost my 15-year-old Shih Tzu, Saki. This memoir recounts our journey through subjugation, loss of self, despair and how Saki's unwavering love and tenacity helped me survive, heal and ultimately rediscover myself. Our story begins with a dramatic escape, capturing the fear and the hopelessness of my five-month relationship with Theo, a man with narcissistic and bipolar personality disorder.
Flashing back to our initial happiness, the narrative details how Theos manipulations gradually strip away my identity. He bought me Saki to tighten his control, knowing I would never leave her. Her loyalty and courage gave me the strength to leave him, emphasizing the theme of survival against overwhelming odds.
When Theo kidnaps Saki, my neighbor Patrick aids in her rescue, marking Theos removal from my life and the beginning of a new chapter. Patrick quickly became my boyfriend and two years later, we married. I traded one narcissist bipolar disorder for another. Then starts another journey of abuse and isolation while we move to Napa Valley to start a life together. My journal excerpts vividly depict my pain and Sakis' steadfast presence, illustrating the themes of resilience and the healing power of companionship.
