Misogynie in einem Dubliner Vorort
Eine einzige Kurzgeschichte. 45 Seiten. In einem Rutsch zu lesen und dann gleich nochmal. Es lohnt sich. Die ausgeklügelte Komposition des kleinen feinen Bandes verdient es, ihr nachzuforschen und sie zu verstehen. Es macht Spaß, die vielen Andeutungen aufzulösen.
Ein Mann aus dem Pendlergürtel von Dublin beendet an einem Freitagabend im Sommer seine Arbeit am Schreibtisch und fährt mit dem Bus in den Vorort, wo er wohnt. Er füttert seine Katze, dann verbringt er den Abend mit Fertigessen, Kuchen und Champagner. Zuletzt geht er ins Bett. So weit, so unspektakulär. Dazwischen gepackt - als Flashback - ist die bittere Geschichte seiner Verlobung, die er eigentlich nicht versteht oder verstehen will. Die Sympathie, die man vielleicht zu Beginn der Geschichte für die Hauptperson hat, verschwindet allmählich. Misogynie lautet der französische Titel.
