Before I stated this first book of The Nightborn duet, I've read a lot of critics (good and bad), so I might be biased by them.
The point is I like the writing, the story, and the characters.
It's really well written that even non native English readers will enjoy this.
clearly, there are some open strings (it's a duet) without a bad cliffhanger, and the next book is already out there.
Oraya is fierce but a little naive in some sorts, but within this book, she's evolving a lot emotionally (and physically as "the games" beginn). The story is only written from her POV in the first person, which I find helpful to understand her better.
Rhain is sort of a mystery. In one hand, I think I know him (actions speak a lot for themselves), but on the other hand ,actions speak for themselves. Got it?
I like him, I really do, but I had my mic drop moments with him.
Ok, let's talk about spice. This is definitely a slow burn, but it gets hot in here in the last third of the book. The banter and chemistry are there from the first look, but until they decide on it, it takes time and trust.
conclusion:
For romantasy lovers, who already liked ACOTAR, The Hunger Games, Forth Wing, and probably Twilight. It's about vampires, it gets hot and contains a lot of blood.
book description
Human or vampire, the rules of survival are the same: never trust, never yield, and always always guard your heart.
The adopted human daughter of the Nightborn vampire king, Oraya carved her place in a world designed to kill her. Her only chance to become something more than prey is entering the Kejari: a legendary tournament held by the goddess of death herself.
But winning wont be easy amongst the most vicious warriors from all three vampire houses. To survive, Oraya is forced to make an alliance with a mysterious rival.
Everything about Raihn is dangerous. He is a ruthless vampire, an efficient killer, an enemy to her fathers crown and her greatest competition. Yet, what terrifies Oraya most of all is that she finds herself oddly drawn to him.
But theres no room for compassion in the Kejari. War for the House of Night brews, shattering everything that Oraya thought she knew about her home. And Raihn may understand her more than anyone but their blossoming attraction could be her downfall, in a kingdom where nothing is more deadly than love.
