Pathological Gambling

Castellani (behavioral sciences, Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine) draws on perspectives of Foucault and Strauss, court cases, historical documents, first-hand accounts from gamblers and their families, and his own clinical experience to explain how pathological gambling became a social problem in the United States, and how it has been made into a medical disorder. He also discusses the impact its legalization and medicalization have had on US culture.
