Young Goodman Brown

Nathaniel Hawthorne (1804-1864) was an American novelist and short story writer whose works explored guilt, morality, and the legacy of Puritanism in early American life. Born in Salem, Massachusetts, Hawthorne drew deeply upon New England history and religious culture in his fiction. His major works include The Scarlet Letter, The House of the Seven Gables, and numerous short stories that remain central to the American literary tradition.
