Beyond Black Ice is an exciting winter sailing adventure about Katie, a skilled young iceboat racer, and her twin brother, Skip. While practicing on frozen Raven Lake with their coach, the twins race across the ice, dreaming of future regatta victories. But when a sudden and powerful wind causes a terrible crash, Skip and their coach are badly hurt and unable to move.
With daylight fading and no one else around, Katie must stay calm and brave. Remembering her training and her coach's advice, she sets out alone across the frozen lake to get help, traveling beyond the safe black ice she knows so well. Along the way, she faces fear, exhaustion, and unexpected danger, but she refuses to give up.
Thanks to Katie's determination-and a little help from those who care about her-help arrives just in time. Though the twins miss the regatta, Katie discovers that courage, quick thinking, and love for family matter more than any trophy.
