This monograph examines and compares the views of the Hanifite Al-Jä s (d. 981), the Ash ar Al-Baqillani (d. 1013), and the Mu'tazilite Al-Qadi Abd al-Jabbar (d. 1025) regarding the use of the clear to illuminate the abstract or ambiguous when interpretating the Qur'an or the Sunnah.
