The Best of Me

Dove Thomas' world turned upside down on August 13th, 2015 when her mother was killed in a house fire after running back in to try and save her best friend's dad. Dove's emotional and physical turmoil only started that day. Would she follow in her mother's step and end in a horrific fire or will she follow in her father's footsteps and end up behind bars to protect everyone she loves from the town that's slowly killing everything she ever loved, including her best friend?

Staring at herself in the mirror, her long red hair falling over her shoulder as she slowly turned her icy blue eyes with a ring of gold around the irises, scanning her body, her heartbeat a little bit faster as she caught a glimpse of her lover on the bed laying on it. Her eyes met his in the mirror, a smile forming on her lips. He had been the quarterback, the most sought after guy in school. His name is Jacob Tyler, JT for short. Her name? Her name is Dove Thomas.

JT and Dove had grown up together, their parents having been best-friends up until her mother's death, right before her freshman year of High School. Dove had expected him to understand, having lost his father that same night but he had pushed her away when she needed her best friend the most. The night of the tragedy, their families had been having a football party. The others had been evacuated when they smelled the gas from the stove, but her mother had gone back in to get JT's father Colby. Neither one of them made it back out that night alive.
