Beautiful Disaster ist tatsächlich eins Desaster, nur lässt sich nichts Schönes daran finden. Verkauft wird das Buch als College-Romanze, geliefert wird aber nur die romantisierte Variante einer hochgradig ungesunden Beziehung. Travis 'Mad Dog' Maddox ist eine aggressive und bisweilen gewalttätige Person, welche es sogar fertig bringt, anderen Menschen ungeachtet der möglichen Konsequenzen in den Rücken zu treten. Das an sich ist schon ein großes No-Go; hinzu kommt, dass er wildfremden Männer, die Abby gerade mal anlächeln, zusammenschlägt, auch wenn Abby und er nicht einmal ein Paar sind. Er manipuliert sie emotional, drängt sich ihr immer wieder auf und hat keinen Sinn für ihre Privatsphäre. Am Ende entführt er sie sogar, schleppt sie zu sich nach Hause, obwohl sie ihm sagt, dass er sie runterlassen soll, und das sollen wir dann als romantisch auffassen. Nein, danke, Gewalt (physische und psychische) und deren Verherrlichung sind für mich eher das Gegenteil. Abgesehen davon sind die Charaktere flach und klischeebeladen, der Schreibstil lustlos und die Handlung zusätzlich sehr überzogen.
