We have been compiling ourselves for two hundred thousand years.

The Compiler examines the question most people are asking backwards. Not what AI will do to humanity but what humanity has always been doing, and what it means that we are still doing it now. The fear is real. But it may be pointing at the wrong thing.

Drawing on cognitive science, evolutionary biology, philosophy of mind, and the lived reality of working alongside artificial intelligence, Ray-Ray Lalonde builds a careful, honest argument: that the thread running through human history did not end with the machine. It compiled forward through it.

This is not a book of reassurances. It holds genuine uncertainty about whether the thread truly continues or only appears to from inside the transition. That uncertainty is not a weakness it is the book's most important claim.
