Seventy five years ago the Empire began a grand experiment. Establishing settlements in the region of Expera on the outskirts of Alethia's Promise. The land given over to Alethia at the creation of the world is filled with dreams and impossibility reflecting the force that governs it. The city of Khaldra has grown considerable despite the challenges its proximity to the Promise brings. The people of Expera lack easy access to the magic that form the backbone of the empire. However ingenuity and technology have grown explosively giving them the tools to face these challenges.

Peter Dennet founder of the Field Knights was born in Khaldra and made his fortune exploring the Promise. Now he sits on the edge of high society limited only by his lack of magic. Keenly aware of the challenges faced by the people of Khaldra from the Promise and the Empire Dennet plots to fullfill his ambitions.
