Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles
available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. The 1996-97
season is the 100th season of competitive football by Rangers. Rangers
played a total of 52 competitive matches during the 1996-97 season. The
team finished first in the Scottish Premier Division and won its ninth
consecutive league title, equaling the record held by Celtic for
consecutive titles. In the cup competitions, they were knocked out of
the Scottish Cup at the quarter-finals stage, losing 2-0 to Celtic. But
the team won the Scottish League Cup, defeating Hearts 4-3. The European
campaign was disappointing. Although the team qualified for the UEFA
Champions League after a convincing aggregate win over Russian champions
Alania Vladikavkaz, they only recorded three points from their six group
matches.
