Algernon Blackwood wrote 12 novels, a couple of plays, some poetry, and more than 200 short stories, as well as an autobiography. After graduating from Cambridge, he spent a year abroad in Switzerland, and later settled in Canada. Financially troubled, he moved to New York to work as a newspaper reporter. After being swindled of his money, he returned to England where he began to write gothic and supernatural stories.
