(born 14 November 1955, in Annaberg-Buchholz) is a former German
football player who has also worked as a manager. Herget played in 237
Bundesliga matches, scoring 26 goals, for VfL Bochum and Bayer 05
Uerdingen, playing in 39 internationals (four goals) for West Germany
between 1983 and 1988. He was part of the West Germany squad for the
1986 FIFA World Cup, playing just in the final first round tie against
Denmark (0-2) at Querétaro's Estadio La Corregidora. On call for the
1984 UEFA European Football Championship, the former midfielder and
striker was the regular sweeper of Franz Beckenbauer's team at the 1988
UEFA European Football Championship.
