is a Group 2 flat horse race in France which is open to three-year-old
thoroughbred colts and fillies. It is run at Longchamp over a distance
of 2,200 metres (about 1 mile and 3 furlongs), and it is scheduled to
take place each year in May. The event was established in 1861, and it
was originally titled the Prix de Longchamp. In its early years the
race's distance was set at 2,500 metres. The 1871 running was abandoned
because of the Franco-Prussian War. The Prix de Longchamp was one of
several events which were collectively known as the Poules des Produits.
These were the key trials for the Prix du Jockey Club, which were all
established by the Société d'Encouragement in the 19th century. By 1882
there were five such races - the other four, listed by their modern
titles, were the Prix Daru, the Prix Lupin, the Prix Noailles and the
Prix Greffulhe.
