Samuel Langhorne Clemens (1835-1910), more commonly known under the pen name Mark Twain, was an American writer, lecturer, publisher and entrepreneur most famous for his novels "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" (1876) and "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" (1884). First published in 1897, Twain's travel book "Following the Equator - A Journey Around the World" chronicles his 1895 tour of the British Empire when he was 60 years old. Fundamentally a social commentary, it is critical of what Twain considered England's oppressive imperialism and the racism that existed inside the empire. Other notable works by this author include: "The Gilded Age: A Tale of Today" (1873) and "The Prince and the Pauper" (1881). Read & Co. "Of making many books there is no end" (Ecclesiastes 12:12). Everywhere we look we can find books. Hardly is there a place, whether in the home, in the shop, in the workplace, in the museum, or in the religious institution, where we do not find some type of literature. And like Solomon said, "of making many books there is no end." It was true in his day, and it is true in our day.
