Gary Mitchell was born in 1965 in Rathcoole, North Belfast, where he still lives. He left school at 15 and began writing at 26. His plays include In a Little World of Our Own (Abbey Theatre, Dublin; Donmar Warehouse, London; 'Best New Play' Irish Theatre Awards), Tearing the Loom (Lyric Theatre, Belfast), Trust and Force of Change (both Royal Court, London). Resident Playwright at the National Theatre, 1998-9.
